"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:
to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself
from being polluted by the world." James 1:27
I have to say, I have absolutely love this verse out of the book of James. In our small group, we are covering this letter, James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ. It was addressed to the scattered tribes of Israel. While I, myself, am not a Jew, I find his application useful for living the faith instead of saying it.
Looking after the helpless is vital to showing the love of Christ. God's heart grieves and angers when helpless are neglect or oppressed. Caring for an old relative can be difficult or adopting a child that isn't yours. Don't forget that Christian's were adopted in God's family by accepting Christ.
